You can target trophy pike in early autumn by trolling along the edges of deep reed shores. Explore the fishing area and note any spots where herring or vendace are present. Troll close to those areas. A depth sinker also works well for zander trolling.
How to use the sinker: Tie the line from your reel to the sinker. Attach a leader about the length of your rod to the sinker’s swivel. At the other end of the leader, attach a spinner, spoon, wobbler, or even a fly.
For zander anglers: if the water cools quickly in midsummer due to wind, zander move from feeding in the surface layers down to the mid-water. Try trolling zander wobblers at depths of 6–8 m. You’ll get results.
