OUR STORY

Kuusamon Uistin Oy - from 1967

Kuusamon Uistin was born from the dream of two friends. Paavo Korpua and Paavo Putila had been passionate fishermen and close companions since their youth. The only frustration in their hobby was the lack of lures that truly met their expectations. The solution was simple—they began crafting their own fishing lures.

Before long, their effective lure designs gained recognition among other anglers. Demand grew not only locally but also from further afield. As their lures proved highly successful beyond Kuusamo, the two Paavos were able to fulfill their dream and establish their own company, Kuusamon Uistin Oy, in 1967.

In the beginning, the company focused on producing a few well-known models. These enduring classics—Professor, Räsänen, and Kitkan Viisas—are still in use today. Over time, the company expanded steadily, along with its product range. Today, Kuusamon Uistin manufactures and sells over 1,000 different lures and fishing accessories.

Kuusamon Uistin Oy – Environmentally Responsible

Fishing is an activity that takes place in nature—and inevitably, it also has an impact on it. Kuusamon Uistin believes that fishing is a valuable and worthwhile hobby, with significant benefits not only for individuals but also for society and the economy. However, with its importance comes responsibility: fishing must be practiced in a sustainable and ethical way.

Every angler must understand and accept their responsibility. If we fail to respect shared rules, agreements, each other, and the environment, the future of fishing could become uncertain.

As a lure manufacturer, Kuusamon Uistin recognizes its own responsibility. While a single company cannot directly control the behavior of individual anglers, it can encourage ethical and responsible practices. At the same time, the company continuously evaluates and develops its own operations according to these principles.

Kuusamon Uistin has refined its manufacturing processes so that, although potentially hazardous substances are used, none are released into the environment. All waste generated during production is carefully collected and delivered to appropriate treatment facilities. The raw materials and components used are also selected to ensure that finished lures do not release any harmful substances into nature.
